Secondary table in the ANES Guide:

A demographic subgroup table is linked to an initial display table. In each subgroup table,
the question asked (the same as in the initial display table) is summarized at the top of the
table. The response category represented in the subgroup table is indicated in the line which
begins PERCENT AMONG DEMOGRAPHIC GROUPS WHO RESPONDED: or
AVERAGE AMONG DEMOGRAPHIC GROUPS WHO RESPONDED: (In a few
instances, data for 1 or more response categories are combined into one category for the
subgroup table). In the example below, each row represents a different demographic group
of respondents (e.g., respondents who are male, respondents who are female, respondents
born 1943-1958, etc.). The percentage of respondents within that particular group who
gave the response specified at the top of the table is displayed for each year the question was
asked. For example, 27% of females in 1964 answered that the government is run for the
benefit of a Few Big Interests, while 31% of female respondents gave that answer in 1966.
In 1994, 77% of white respondents said that government is run for a Few Big Interests;
68% of black respondents gave that answer in 1994.
