     Washington -- the Democrats, the Republicans, or wouldn't there be any
     difference between them on this?"
       

     NOTE:  
     THIS QUESTION IS PRECEDED BY THE FOLLOWING FILTERS:
     INTRO, ALL YEARS:  "Some people are afraid the government in
     Washington is getting too powerful for the good of the country and the
     individual person. Others feel that the government in Washington is
     not getting too strong (1964,1966,1970: has not gotten too strong for
     the good of the country)."
     -1964,1968,1972,1976: "Have you been interested enough in this to
     favor one side over the other?" (IF YES:) "What is your feeling, do
     you think the government is getting too powerful or do you think the
     government is not getting too strong?" (IF OPINION NOT DK:)....
     -1978,1980,1984: "Have you been interested enough in this to
     favor one side over the other?" (IF YES:)....
     -1988,1992:  "Have you been interested enough in this to.
