|2013 INTERNET RECONTACT STUDY|
|Description:||Note for text variables in Stata 12 (or earlier) system files|
For Stata 12 or older, a limitation exists in Stata's ability to handle large amounts of text. Because Stata files created for the current release of this study were prepared using Stata 12, some truncated texts are present in the release .dta file.
Please note that ONLY Stata system (.dta) data are affected. The Stata 12 dictionary (.dct file) present in the current release will also will produce a .dta file with truncated texts. The SPSS system (.sav) file and raw ASCII (.txt) data file in this release do not have truncated texts.
Researchers who use Stata should be aware of this issue and contact us if they have any questions. We will provide an updated release in the future. That release will extract the text variables from the main data file and make them available in a standalone file in text-friendly format. This will allow for easier analysis of that data and will avoid the issue of truncation.
